Angry??

upsss dont speculate y m i paste-ing ths article..it just good for reading...frm cnn.com

By Andrea Bonior (The Frisky) --

We've all had those moments. First, you feel your face start to tingle, then your heart begins to pound, and then you ball up your fists and feel like kicking a wall (or at least tearing to shreds that "service agreement" that after three weeks brought you no service at all.)

First steps to cooling down: Acknowledge you're mad and write what you're feeling, author says.
Anger can be powerful -- but there are healthy and unhealthy ways of dealing with it. Handle your frustration properly, and it can get your blood flowing and spur you on to make positive changes. Here's how to tame your inner raging bull:

1. Acknowledge It: Clenching your teeth while stuffing your feelings does no good for you, your mate, or your gastrointestinal tract. There's nothing wrong with being angry.

Admitting it to yourself, or as calmly as possible to the person you're locking horns with, can feel validating, and it's the first step in working toward resolution.

2. Spell it out: Still simmering after an awful performance evaluation? Writing down your feelings -- yes, the prehistoric pen and paper can work as well, if not better, than the laptop-can be extremely helpful.

In the process, you can sort out why you're upset and what steps you can take work through the situation. Perhaps most important, putting your feelings into words can diminish their grip on you and help them work their way out of your system.

3. Get physical: Biologically, anger looks quite similar to other forms of arousal. Get connected to your body, and channel the rage into an activity that can release tension-dancing, jumping rope, kickboxing and running are great examples.

Do a primal scream (if you're blessed not to share walls.) Instead of letting frustration burn you up, you can let it burn off. Sometimes the energy release of a good laugh, or a good cry, can also take the edge off.

4. Seek perspective: If you're still feeling steamed from that bully on the exit ramp or the backhanded tone from the bartender, it might be time to make a list of the things you're grateful for.

Gratitude meditations, or just sitting and focusing on what's right in your life, are associated with increased fulfillment and diminished stress. Breaking out the yardstick to determine mountain from molehill can sometimes help clear your head.

5. Connect, carefully: Sharing your feelings with a trusted person can often be very cathartic. Don't make excuses for your emotions or buff them to a shine; just let them flow.

But beware of the friend who just riles you up further; there's a difference between letting you vent and fanning your flames.

6. Take action: If it's a serial aggressor that's getting you down, chart out steps to improve the situation. A methodical, specific plan of action can lend a sense of control, helping stop the madness.

7. Watch it: Sometimes even when things seem resolved, anger can linger in the form of hypersensitivity, irritability, and insomnia.

Increasing your mindfulness -- or at the very least, keeping an ear attuned to your inner dialogue of thoughts and feelings -- can serve as an early warning system for future conflicts.

It can also help you determine if you're carrying around the weight of that snarky email long after it's good to do so

makan makan

hahhhhh lega rasanya...

last nite we held makan2 for some of our close friends ere. This time our guests are locals. So it was a Malaysian Dishes for d nite..

The menu was:

Nasi Briyani Daging
Ayam Tandoori
Ayam masak madu
Salad..
Dessert: Mango Pudding with pineapple...

They said d dishes are perfect 10!..hahaha...xkan la plak they want 2 say otherwise rite..
opsss rahsianya..we just use instant paste tat we brought frm home..wat we do was just add apa yg patut so tat it will taste better...like for d briyani, d paste alone sure wont b gud enuff..we tumis bawangs, ginger, cinnamon, cardomon..& no minyak sapi but instead tee butter..

D most happy part is, other than salad the rest are all licin..finished..ilek..

Our guests were ere until 10 pm. after d dinner i did show to them our wedding album..hahaha..apa lg..most of the time they said "schone, schone schone.."& i was out of word to explain d Malay wedding..

Still there r few thgs tat i wish we could make it better;

- d ayam masak merah was quite pedas since we add a little bit cili api (i mean pedas la for mat saleh!)..luckily d guys still can go wth it..
-our presentation was quite bad..coz we dont have enuff serving/dinnerware, the table really togel (no cover cloth, no flowers,...),
-d tandoori was served with some lemons. we could have put some salad, tomatoes, cucumber pickles..to make d presentation better..it was quite togel also
-d pudding is considered vry little..it would be great if i had prepared pisang sira..since mat saleh ni normally like banana so much (they like nenas too!)

& the real challenge was 2 have prepared d dinner within only 2 hrs+..not tat easy with d litte one..so we did call Zaman to come in earlier to look after our little Sayang!
Finally..thanks to d dishwasher...

Beating jet lag

Note:This article is frm The Star online on Wed 8thJuly09. As part of my reading/preparations returning bck home...

Jet lag is the bane of all travellers but there are ways to lessen its effects.

The world, which is a sphere, is divided up into 24 time zones. The basis for world time is the Greenwich meridian, which is an imaginary longitudinal line passing through Greenwich village in London. The time changes by an hour for every 15° travelled in either direction from the Greenwich meridian. When one goes westwards, one gains time; when one goes eastwards, one loses time.

Jet travel enables a person to travel long distances over several time zones. When one travels over at least more than three time zones, one may experience jet lag. The traveller’s body clock is disrupted as the body has to adjust to a new routine that is different from what the traveller is usually accustomed to. The body will need time to adjust to the time. In short, jet lag is a sleep disorder that occurs when the body’s biological clock does not correspond to local time.
Interrupted sleep: Travelling across time zones upsets the body’s circadian clock, causing travellers to suffer jet lag.

Anyone can get jet lag. It is more common in those who are more than 50 years old and much less common in infants and children. However, it does not occur in everyone who travel long distances.

Jet lag may be challenging for frequent flyers or those who travel across several time zones. However, it does not cause serious or chronic health problems.
Everyone has a body clock, which is also called “biological clock” and “circadian rhythm”. It controls not only the time when sleep is required and when one is awake, but also other important body functions like hunger, body temperature regulation, production of hormones, blood pressure, bowel habits and urine production. The body clock is usually in tandem with the local time. All the rhythms are regulated by internal and external factors that interact. This means that one feels sleepy in the night and hungry and active in the daytime.

When a traveller crosses several time zones, the body has to adjust to the new times of light and darkness as well as other body functions such as sleep and activity cycle and associated changes in physical and mental functioning. The body has to re-establish its circadian rhythm.

It is believed that the oxygen levels in the cabin of the aeroplane influence jet lag. The cabin air is at a lower pressure than on the ground. This leads to a lower oxygen concentration in the blood, thus affecting the physical and mental abilities of the traveller. There is increased lethargy and tiredness. This effect is greater in travellers who have cardiac and/or lung conditions and/or whose haemoglobin is reduced (anaemia).

People who routinely go to sleep at the same time are more likely to get jet lag. This explains why jet lag is much less common in babies and children who go to sleep at any time and are better able to adjust to the new time zone.

Symptoms

The commonest symptoms of jet lag are a disturbed sleep pattern and decreased performance. One may not be able to sleep at the same time as the departure site or one may get up earlier than expected. If the time difference is about 12 hours, one may be awake at night and sleepy during day time. This commonly leads to a feeling of lethargy and tiredness.

Other symptoms may include gastrointestinal disorders (loss of appetite, indigestion, nausea, altered bowel habits), loss of concentration, memory lapses, headache, irritability, anxiety and a general feeling of being unwell.

There is no agreement yet for the standardisation of the symptoms of jet-lag, making it difficult to compare studies. The symptoms of jet lag usually last a few days depending on how rapidly the body adjusts to the time zone at the destination.

The symptoms are worse when travelling eastwards as compared to travelling westwards. When travelling westwards, time is gained. When travelling eastwards, time is lost. The body is more comfortable with less sleep than when forced to sleep when one is not yet ready to sleep. The body’s usual rate of adjustment is 1.5 hours per day after an eastward flight and one hour per day when the flight is in a westward direction.

The likelihood of jet lag and its severity are influenced by insufficient fluid intake (dehydration), alcohol intake, insufficient sleep and stress. There is much individual variation in the symptoms, which severity depends on the number of time zones crossed and the distance travelled. Most people experience the symptoms after they have crossed at least three time zones. However, there are others who even experience symptoms even when the journeys are shorter.

There are several measures that can be taken to minimise the likelihood of jet lag and its severity, such as adjusting the body’s body clock towards that at the destination site. This involves staying awake when it is daylight and sleeping when it is night at the destination after flying westwards and staying awake but avoiding bright light in the morning and getting outdoors in the afternoon after flying eastwards.

The measures that can be taken prior to travelling include:

Getting sufficient sleep as jet lag is worsened if one has had enough sleep.
Maintaining a sensible bed time schedule. The changing of the sleep schedule a few days before travelling is helpful such as getting to bed later, if travelling westwards and getting to bed earlier, if travelling eastwards.
Avoiding stress as it worsens jet lag.
Plan the arrival at the destination ahead of time for important events at the destination.

The measures that can be taken during the flight include:

Maintaining adequate hydration by drinking plenty of fluids.
Avoiding alcohol and caffeine as it aggravates jet lag.
Setting the watch time to that at the destination helps in a more rapid adjustment to the new time zone.
Sleeping at times which are appropriate for sleep at the destination.

The measures that can be taken after arrival include:

Getting into the appropriate routine at the new time zone as soon as possible such as eating and sleeping at the appropriate time in the destination and not that at the departure site.
Spending time outdoors as natural light helps in the body clock’s adjustment.
Continue exercising at the destination but avoid exercising in late evening as it can keep one awake.

Melatonin is a hormone released by the body’s pineal gland in the evening that reminds the brain that it is time to sleep soon. There is a misconception that melatonin induces sleep. It does not. What it does is that it acts as regulator switch that moves the body clock forward or backward depending on when it is taken. If melatonin is taken when darkness starts, it reminds the brain that it is time to sleep. If taken on waking, the sleep phase is prolonged.

The effectiveness of melatonin is currently not conclusive. However, a review reported that 2mg to 5mg of melatonin taken at bedtime after arrival is effective and it may be useful to continue using it for the next two to four days with the general measures described previously.
The adverse effects of melatonin have not been studied rigorously. However, it has been reported that there has been harm in epileptics and interactions with blood thinning medicines (anti-coagulants). It would be prudent to consult your doctor about jet lag remedies.

what a surprise..i dont like it!

i have written earlier that is confirmed that we'll be flying back on this july 31..

But yesterday my Dear received a scan copy of Co's letter stated that he has be home a week earlier..ie reporting back in Bangi on 24th...

i was mad..very mad actually. This is less than a month notice. when we have to forgo one weekend,it does matter. becoz we are talking an international relocation ere. it has shorten my days for packings..for some personal stuff.in fact quite a number of my to do list has 2 be cancelled.

We 1st got d news about this 'goin back home' matter rite after Harris been discharged frm d hospital. & what been discussed was that d report duty shall be on August 3rd. We were fine bout this. When it is recession, everythg is possible. The "EXCEPTIONAL THG" (my post on 19/2/09) has just gone back to square..

But the last minute changes is just not easy.it is tedious, hassles, lot of sacrifies & mentally disturbed..trust me on this (xcept if u hate the place u r now). The most annoying part bout this is how come one of the staff ere having a different report back date (ie d later date)?? you might understand me if i tell u the later one week is company off day ere (plant shutdown) and he is also a boss..

m not saying this situation is on purpose but even it is co-incidently happened as such, i m still annoyed. yes i am...
